Katy Scoones, (Vis. Arts
Dpl., BA, MA, Prof. Art Therapist, Advanced Equine-Facilitated Wellness
Cert.Cdte), is a Professional Art Therapist currently
working alongside members of the Esquimalt Nation Community and in private
practice. Her previous work as an intern
with Victoria Child and Youth Mental Health, and the South Island Eating
Disorders Program, has inspired her to create a gentle person-centered
approach. She has honed her therapeutic
and clinical counseling skills with diverse populations and this experience has
taught her that at the heart of so many struggles, is the longing for
self-acceptance, authentic connection and purpose-filled living.
In her newly
built “Spotted Dog Studio” she offers children, youth and adults the benefits
of engaging with the Creative Arts and more recently, approaches in Expressive
Play and Sand Tray Therapies. Mindful of
the healing properties of the natural world and compelled by the
evidenced-based research into animal-assisted therapies, Katy is an Advanced
Certification Candidate in Equine Facilitated Wellness (NAEFW). In both her
studio and farm practice, Katy will gently encourage you to focus on the
present moment, embrace a compassionate connection to your self, learn to
listen to the wisdom of the body-mind, and shine the unique light that is
* Katy is a member in good standing with the BCATA and NAEFW and is a life-long learner involved in Professional Development workshops in all areas of counselling and the Expressive Therapies.

Katie Scoones of Heartfelt Therapy has worked with our daughter through
art therapy and begin the
process of healing.
As a therapist Katie has gone above and beyond to ensure the safety and
confidentiality of our daughters treatment. Katie has helped our daughter link the connection of her thought
patterns with her actions which has enhanced our daughters ability to connect
with others and be compassionate and mindful.
Kind and incredibly sensitive Katie takes a nurturing approach to
developing strategies for coping and developing connections which has been a
tremendous support to our daughter and family.
Upon the sudden and tragic loss of their father, our family was catapulted into a state of shock, disbelief, confusion, anger, and loss. My daughters (ages 11 and 15) were in need of support that I alone could not provide. They needed a safe place, where they would be heard even when they weren't able to articulate much. Katy was recommended by a friend and I will be forever grateful. Katy is gentle, caring and supportive in her approach, and her creative mediums have enabled my girls to express themselves in ways that talking (i.e., forcing words out of their mouths) would not have. My girls adore Katy and they look forward to each visit; and with each visit I see them growing stronger and using the tools they are learning in their everyday lives. I can't thank you enough, Katy, for the difference you continue to make for our family.
